So recently I blogged about how metaphoric it is for slower drivers to take on the fast lane. Just like in many other things.
Then yesterday, I discovered two more traffic-related issues I love to cari pasal about.
First, zebra crossings. Meant for pedestrians to cross easily especially in the absence of traffic lights, correct?
Those familiar with the LDP would notice zebra crossings right in front of Tropicana City Mall. I'm not too bothered with the one with the traffic lights. Yet what annoys me most is when some drivers think they're too important to stop at that junction from Sprint into the LDP.
Malaysian pedestrians, knowing how 'courteous' these drivers are would then stand and wait till the stream of cars pass. Isn't is supposed to be the other way around?
So what I'd normally do is, I'd stop, despite many cars following. Of course only when it's not too risky. Anyway, my utmost satisfaction surprisingly, is when these 1-2 cars start to honk. Oh come on, I'd be saying. Pedestrians are normally grateful and surprised that they are given some priority. Why not, right? We're the ones sitting in the car with the radio and aircond on. And granted, not like you're going to be an hour late.
I know most of us would stop and allow them to cross. But IF you happen to be one of those who honk, and in any instance at this exact spot, you know it's possible me there happy that you're irked.
Ah moving on to my next pet peeve on the road. Yesterday's run reminded me of how inpatient drivers get on my nerves.
So, you know street marathons normally render roads blocked for at least a certain period of time. Frankly, I would feel sorry for drivers who didn't happen to know and yet in a hurry to get somewhere. But isn't it a bit too late to get all pissy? The volunteers and police are already there, the stream of runners are crossing whilst keeping track of their time.
If you are unfamiliar with the concept of a race, umm how do I say this - people normally want to go faster and not be stopped just because you're late for a date or something? I'd get it if there had been an emergency but I guess that is one reason why we shouldn't be oblivious about the happenings around us.
So yes, in this run I participated in several months ago, traffic wasn't too heavy. In fact most of us bothered to cross faster, enabling some of the cars go. They really didn't make a fuss, no honking, just waited and some even cheered.
Clearly the opposite, I get pretty annoyed with drivers thinking they could stop runners just by displaying their anger. Bleh. With every honk, you wait lah few minutes more.
Had half the heart to crawl at that particular junction. Yes I may be slow, but have you ever tried doing this yourself or do you need your car to even get 100 meters ahead, every time?
Think about it and stop honking. Too bad, my friend.
Oh no. I'm really provoked the strongest by others' display of annoyance. Hehe.
